RECYCLING—THE FACTS

Recycling is something that those self-proclaimed environmentalists the LibDems are supposedly good at. Well new national statistics tell a different story.

Of the top ten worst performing councils for recycling almost all are LibDem run, with recycling rates as low as two (yes two!) percent.

Medway is now achieving better than 20% so there is a major difference, and further evidence that we are doing very well. Importantly almost 80% of residents declare themselves to be satisfied with the council‘s performance on recycling.

If we learn anything at all about the LibDems and Labour it is that they tax more and deliver less. In neighbouring LibDem run Maidstone most residents pay over £1,200 per year in council tax, whilst in Labour run Gravesham the figure is £1,135.

All this compares with Medway where we pay a great deal less. Pity the Maidstone or Gravesham resident who pays more and gets less.

So how does the government react to a high performing council like Medway? We hit our recycling targets so they set even higher targets by way of reward!

Do they fund the targets? Of course not, instead giving us higher and higher landfill taxes.

If you are a poor performing council with lousy recycling rates you get set low targets, whilst if you are higher performing they want more—and the money has to be found from the taxpayers!

That‘s Labour‘s idea of fairness. Punish the good and reward the bad.
