CALLOUS CLIFFE CONFESSION

The Prime Minister‘s recent visit to Medway gave him the opportunity to unveil one of the most cynical and blatant pieces of political trickery in modern times.

The subject? His admission that the government never had any intention of building an airport at Cliffe.

With that admission he revealed beyond any doubt (if any such doubt remains after almost 8 years of deceit), that Labour is all about spin and dishonesty. Labour is about running falsehoods that bring alarm, and in some cases despair, to ordinary hardworking folk who look to their government for truth and guidance.

If the Cliffe airport was never an option why then did the Labour government put the residents of Medway through almost two years of hell? Why were homes and jobs and people‘s dreams blighted for almost two long years?

Why was so much money wasted by Medway Council and many others in a desperate fight to turn back a planned concrete monster? Ask Labour. It was all because Prime Minster Blair and his Labour party seem incapable of telling the truth about anything. Even Tony Blair‘s own Chancellor is apparently on record as saying that he will never believe anything the Prime Minister says to him again.

After that admission about Cliffe we should all once again be united—not this time in opposition to an airport proposal, but to a government which has been shown to have plumbed the depths of dishonesty and callousness.
