Grimebusters launched
Special Clean-up Teams Begin Their Work Around Medway...
Yesterday saw the launch of a new initiative called Grimebusters. This is a special team devoted to dealing with the following problems on Council land and public areas:
- removal and disposal of fly tipping including from travellers (target is within five days)
- fly posting and illegal signs (target is within 72 hours)
- dead animals on the road (target is within 24 hours)
- animal and bird droppings (target is within 48 hours)
- broken glass
- hypodermic syringes (target is within 24 hours)
The Grimebusters will also help:
- keep Medway's main routes clear of litter
- support and aid communities and groups carrying out environmental clear-ups
- remove offensive or racist graffiti (target is within 24 hours)
- repair or replace damaged litter and dog bins
- treat spillages on the roads
- wash down key shopping areas
Ten Grimebusters will be operating in six units, at different times and with a total of six special vehicles: an HGV with a mechanical grab, three caged vehicles, a van with a tail-lift and a hot wash vehicle.
