Money Council Accounts for 2002/2003 Closed Early

Public inspection of Medway Council's accounts should be early this year

Although the statutory dates for completion and audit of the Council's accounts are currently 30th September and 31st December respectively, moving in stages to 30th June and 30th September by 2006, we have achieved closure of this year's accounts by 30th June 2003. It is now hoped that our auditors can accelerate the audit to achieve the September deadline which means that the accounts will be available earlier for public inspection.

The dates and times when Medway Council's accounts for 2002/2003 will be available have yet to be agreed with the Council's auditors but will probably occur during September. The Council places a notice in the local newspapers to advertise availability of the accounts.

Although electors cannot raise objections to the 2002/2003 accounts until the 'official' inspection period, the draft accounts were considered by Cabinet on 8th July and approved by Council on 16th July and are therefore public documents and available on the Council's website, on the Authority's reception desks and in Medway's main libraries.
