Improvements in the Wilson Avenue area
Improvements planned to the street environment in and around Wilson Avenue in Rochester
The network of roads around (and including) Wilson Avenue in Rochester is about to receive some environmental improvements. We havw secured funding under the scheme for work to improve such things as roundabouts, provide parking bays (but without great loss to green verges!) and various other enhancements.
After full consultation with the residents of the area, including a public meeting, a very good response has resulted in the following being proposed:
- Deep road repairs (i.e. not just resurfacing)
- Tarmac pavements (no more cracked and raised paving slabs!)
- Possible traffic calming (some residents want this, others don't!)
- New street lights of consistent design that will not shine into homes
- Road markings from main roads to indicate drivers are entering a residential area
- Lighting of alleyways and other locations that need it
- Yellow lines extended at suitable places
- Traffic signalling changes are to be looked at
- Existing roundabout to be improved, and a new one at Wilson Avenue/Pattens Lane junction
- New signage (e.g. dog fouling notices) on new lampposts
- Cutaway parking bays to be created
- Improvements to road cambers and drainage
- Tactile pram crossings
