Blythswood Care celebrates fortieth anniversaryThe Christian charity Blythswood Care, which provides huge amounts of aid to disaster-struck and other seriously deprived areas of the world, turned forty years of age today.
It was formed on this day in 1966 in Blythswood Square, Glasgow, from which the name was derived, and has now grown to have several depots and other facilites around Britain, and charity shops, including their depot on the Laker Road estate (which was opened by the then Mayor of Medway, Cllr Sue Haydock whose charity Blythswood was for her mayoral year, in 2005) and a shop in Strood.
Blythswood was very active in providing aid in the wake of the 2004 Tsunami, and has long been active in Serbia and other parts of that region. Most recently they have been strongly involved with relief work in Kashmir, including re-building homes to an earthquake-resistant standard, as further 'quakes are thought possible a few years hence.
Meanwhile, today's event was celebrated by the current Mayor of Medway, Cllr Ken Webber, as well as Cllr Haydock and local ward member Cllr John Ward, pictured here with the Blythswood Medway Team and several other guests.
