School Warren Wood School's new Evergreen Centre

Mayor opens the brand-new Speech and Language Therapy Unit

Mayor of Medway Cllr Ken Webber today officially opened the recently completed Evergreen Centre at Warren Wood Community Primary School in Arethusa Road, Rochester.

Portfolio Holder for Children's Services, Cllr Les Wicks, was also in attendance for this important event, as was local ward Councillor John Ward.

The Evergreen Centre is a modern speech and language therapy unit, comprising four light and airy classrooms each with a screen and projector, an office, and small therapy rooms. It is an excellent facility, and all visitors were impressed. The children were very excited yet completely calm and quiet as they sat and listened to the Mayor's speech and the words of both their Head Teacher and Kerry Trim, who holds the grand title of Assistant Headteacher for Inclusive Provision.

Warren Wood is the only primary school in all of Medway providing for children with particular needs in the areas of speech and language, and thus takes pupils from throughout the Medway area. It is a much-valued resource within a great primary school.

The school has just emerged from Special Measures, so today was a double celebration, and well deserved too! Not only have the teachers and other staff put in a huge amount of effort and given of themselves to bring the school fully out of the depression it suffered upon the untimely death of its former Head, Peter Coker, the children themselves have been just as big a part of this recovery and improvement process.

Warren Wood CP School can today justifiably be proud of its achievements over the past two years, and can look forward to a very bright future.
