Ball Court proposed for Hook Meadow
For a long time, we have wanted a ball court in the ward, ever since inspecting the Rushenden facility at Queenborough some four years ago, and speaking to some of its young users there. The problem was finding somewhere suitable. Early attempts were frustrated by neighbour concerns and what was judged to be a danger of collapse of a dug-out bank that had been suggested on the Davis Estate.
With the expansion of the ward, and after a meeting at Hook Meadow Community Centre with nearby residents and young people, ward members led by Cllr Ron Hewett started work to improve youth facilities in that area. The first fruits of this work has been the very well-attended weekly football matches on the Hook, and now the second phase is on the way!
This project forms part of a bigger plan that will also improve the Hook Meadow Library and the Community Centre. The ball court is expected to be completed by the end of March 2007, and some or all of the other work is hoped to be done by the same date.
